Legal Engineer

Turn complex Belgian legal work into structured workflows lawyers can trust — from research to drafting, with traceable sources.

About the role

At Brieflee, we’re building AI-native legal workflows that help Belgian lawyers move faster without sacrificing trust.

As a Legal Engineer, you’ll join a small, fast-moving team at the intersection of law, product, and AI. You’ll work closely with engineers and product to translate real legal work into structured research and drafting experiences—grounded in Belgian sources, transparent citations, and firm-style outputs. Your work will directly shape how lawyers go from messy case files to defensible conclusions in minutes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and own legal workflows end-to-end — from file intake and chronology building to research, argument structuring, and drafting outputs.

  • Translate Belgian legal practice into product-ready logic (issues, elements, burdens, remedies) that the system can apply consistently.

  • Define drafting templates and structures (conclusions, memos, letters) that users can personalize to their firm style.

  • Curate and validate source usage — ensure research results and generated content are traceable, jurisdiction-accurate, and citation-backed.

  • Partner with product and engineering to scope features, clarify edge cases, and turn legal nuance into reliable behavior.

  • Create quality standards and evaluation checks for “legal correctness” (when to refuse, when to ask for more documents, what counts as sufficient support).

  • Run feedback loops with lawyers — collect input, test new flows, and convert real-world feedback into improvements.

  • Document legal reasoning guidelines so the product remains consistent as the team and dataset scale.

About you

  • Legal background with strong research and writing skills (law degree or equivalent experience in practice, research, or litigation support).

  • Deep familiarity with Belgian legal sources (case law + statutory provisions) and comfort working with citations and court-level nuance.

  • Ability to translate legal complexity into structured logic (issues → tests → elements → evidence → remedies).

  • Strong drafting instincts — you can produce clear, professional legal work product and spot weak reasoning fast.

  • Product-minded and detail-obsessed: you care about usability, consistency, and edge cases—not just “correct in theory.”

  • Comfort collaborating with engineers and product to define behavior, constraints, and quality standards.

  • Excellent communication in English (French and/or Dutch is a strong plus).

Benefits

  • Remote-first (with regular meetups / option to work on-site in Antwerp when needed).

  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity in an early-stage team.

  • Flexible hours and async-friendly culture focused on outcomes.

  • Learning budget for legal tech, AI, and conferences (LegalTech, Bar events, etc.).

  • Direct access to users — you’ll work closely with Belgian lawyers and see your work ship fast.

  • High ownership, low bureaucracy: small team, quick decisions, real product impact.

  • Build work that matters — tools lawyers can actually defend and rely on (not “AI vibes”).
