AI/ML Engineer
Design intelligent systems that make legal work faster, smarter, and more accessible.
About the role
Brieflee’s core experience is built on AI-native legal research and drafting for Belgian law—grounded in traceable sources and real case files.
We’re hiring an AI/ML Engineer to improve how our system retrieves, ranks, and reasons over legal documents and uploaded files. You’ll work closely with product and engineering to ship features like better relevance, source-grounded generation, and smarter chronology and issue extraction—so lawyers can move faster with outputs they can defend.
What you’ll be doing
Build and ship AI features that make legal research and drafting faster, clearer, and more reliable.
Improve how the product understands legal language and user intent to deliver more relevant results.
Develop methods to extract and structure key information from legal documents and case files.
Ensure outputs remain trustworthy by strengthening traceability, consistency, and quality controls.
Collaborate closely with product and engineering to turn user needs into scalable AI capabilities.
Design and run experiments to measure improvements and prevent quality regressions over time.
Help define best practices for responsible AI use in a legal context (precision, transparency, and predictable behavior).
Support continuous improvement through monitoring, user feedback loops, and iteration.
About you
3+ years of experience in machine learning or applied NLP.
Strong background in LLMs, transformers, and text-based classification tasks.
Experience with Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks.
Ability to balance experimentation with shipping production-ready features.
Interest in LegalTech, compliance, or domain-specific modeling is a plus.
Benefits
Remote-first with flexibility for async work and deep-focus time.
Competitive salary + meaningful equity (early-stage ownership).
Learning budget for conferences, courses, and tools relevant to ML and LegalTech.
High autonomy: small team, fast shipping, low bureaucracy.
Direct user feedback loop with Belgian lawyers—your work has visible impact on trust and adoption.
Work on real problems: relevance, traceability, and defensible AI in a high-stakes domain.
